In order to provide safe and reliable service at the lowest possible price, Coast Electric will continue to use the most professional methods available while managing its rights of way in 2012. This will be accomplished by the removal of trees and underbrush located underneath overhead distribution lines. Also, vegetation will be removed that interferes with the routine maintenance of overhead and underground facilities. In addition, dead or hazardous trees that could possibly fall and damage CEPA facilities will be removed. Finally, trees growing into close proximity of overhead lines will be trimmed.
Coast Electric's right-of-way maintenance program is essential to ensure safety to our member-owners and employees, to protect electrical facilities from damage and to maintain a continuous flow of electricity. In order to provide this service, CEPA will be using mechanical and selective herbicide methods on approximately 2,085 miles of line during 2012. These services will be done by CEPA crews along with Asplundh Tree Expert Company, Carson Line Service and Progressive Solutions.
CEPA has also contracted the services of Osmose Utilities to inspect and maintain approximately 13,000 poles in 2012. Poles are inspected for termites, deterioration and damage. Problem poles are then replaced by CEPA crews to ensure public safety and system reliability.
